Usage
Boswellia, a close relative of frankincense, has been used for hundreds of years in Ayurvedic medicine of India to address a variety of ailments. Today’s researchers are focusing their studies on its ability to manage arthritis and inflammation in ways similar to drugs like ibuprofen without the harmful side effects often seen with ibuprofen and similar drugs. Although results of testing in humans is somewhat limited, one randomized double blind placebo controlled crossover study of 30 patients with osteoarthritis showed that all patients receiving boswellia reported a decrease in knee pain, improved flexibility of the knee, the ability to walk longer distances, and a decrease in swelling of the knee joint. Research also suggests that boswellia’s ability to reduce inflammation may be helpful to those who suffer from respiratory diseases such as asthma, emphysema, and bronchitis.
Other human studies show that patients with ulcerative colitis who were administered boswellia showed improvements similar to those seen in patients on sulfasalazine. Additionally, some researchers believe that when both the safety and efficacy of Boswellia serrata extract are taken into consideration when performing a benefit-risk-evaluation, boswellia is superior to mesalazine for treating patients with Crohn’s Disease. On-going human studies continue to support the use of Boswellia in patients with chronic colitis and other bowel problems. *

Take one tablet three times daily with water at mealtimes.
